Default Speeding Ticket

Hi everyone,

We got a speeding ticket a couple of weeks before we left Oz while we were on a working holiday visa (end of 2005). We have since never been issued with any fines from Oz whist back home in Ireland.

Now we are appying for a skilled independent visa (136), our question is will this infringement show up on the Oz Police check? What is the best way for us to deal with this? Do we come clean about it when we apply for the police check? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Aileen and Anthony.

DONT KNOW WHY THEY CHANGED MIND OBVIOUSLY NOT A MAJOR OFFENCE I SUPPOSE, SO YOU WOULD NOT HAVE TO DO ONE BUT I WOULD TELL THEM ABOUT IT.HOPE THATS OF SOME HELP!

Hi Guys,

Not that my opinion counts for much, but I do think you declare it up front.

Rather get it out of the way up front, lets face it, it's not like your the only person in the world to get a speeding ticket !

Thanks
Donna.

Hi Aileen
Was intersested in your post, we got caught for speeding in Oz last summer, but were not issued with a ticket !
The PO told us that we had been given a caution and non payment of fines would mean we would not be allowed to enter Oz again.
However we have never received a ticket and presumed we were just given a warning. He took our license details, and thought a ticket would follow.
Did you get a ticket ?:?
I had stopped worrying about this, but it's now made me think .....

Why dont you just contact the police force in that state you were caught for speeding and pay the fine. Then it will be gone for ever and you dont need to declare it. Mick

Well we never got a ticket, so I don't know if we have anything to pay.
All a bit confusing, as I say don't know if it was a caution and nothing else.
But did mention non payment of fine no entry to Oz again, but haven't been fined ???? Yet

Hi ,

Thanks for the mail. Just to let you know that we contacted the traffic fines department in the state where it happened and guess what.......

we were on their system and we were told that the fine had gone to court and it had now inflated from $150 to $350.

We paid it then and there with our credit card and we were informed that we would hear no more about it. So if I was you, I would definetly contact the traffic fines department of the state it happened to you and just pay it. If you do a search on the internet you will find the traffic fines department for the state you need.

I hope this helps you.

P.S. We were issued with a fine at the scene, the PO did not say anything about a caution then and just told us we would have to pay the fine.

Aileen

Hi Mick,

Best advice for anyone in the same situation, I could not agree more with you. I did exactly that, we were on the system for the fine, paid it and hopefully thats that.

Aileen.
