Default Social Worker status

Hi

my husband has applied to be assessed as a social worker, eventhough he has his degree and one year experience - it came back as a NO, but will automactically be assessed as a welfare officer

If he wants to work as a SW he has to be registered with the AASW (or something with those initials). He works at the moment as Forensic mental health social worker which seems to be a sepcialist role in oz

What is our best option?

He either needs to have 3 years expereicen in UK or studyt in OZ for a year.

We are going throught the state sponsoship process in SA at the moment and I am waiting to hear from them.

Hi Debs
Sounds like a wonderful occupation, how interesting...i would go down the study route in australia if you can afford to do that. at least you are there........and a year goes very fast.....but i should imagine you would have to pay privately for everything whilst he was studying, and this could prove to be very costly...good luck with whatever you decide to do.

It is quite possible that his qualifications may be enough to migrate as a welfare worker but not enough to work as a social worker.

You should check what jobs specifically require social worker registration. Can he not work as a welfare worker if he has got a skill assessment as that?
