IT skilled migration question
 

G'day -

I wondered if anyone here could clear up a question in regards to skilled migration to Oz. I'm currently studying for my degree in IT... as well as working full-time running my own IT firm with a business partner.

My question is this: once I've completed my studies, do I need to work a further four years in IT outside Australia before I get the "experience" requirement to gain a positive skills assessment? Some of my mates say this is the case, but the documentation I've downloaded from the ACS doesn't express this timing clearly. To me reads as me needing to prove four years full-time working experience when presenting an IT degree.

Can anyone clarify the situation for me?

I think you have to have 12 months experience in the job category you are applying under, and you get extra points for more than 4 years in that field of work too? But don't quote me on that.......it's all very confusing!!!

Hi BB,

ACS will accept proof of IT work experience obtained before or while you are
studying for your IT degree. They require the degree and four years
experience, but do not require the degree first.

George,

what is considered a proof of work experience? I worked in a few
projects that are over now. What would be the proof in those cases?

As an advice, due to the fact that you have your own IT firm, maybe
you should consider the 'Business' category.

However, ACS requires employer letter references as a proof. I think
on ACS site they give you details about that. I guess that you should
make it signed by your partner, clearly stating your
duties/skills/experience ( don't give too much details ... your cv
will contain these ).
