Default skilled independant

Say we apply for the 136 visa and indicate we are going to QLD, but either before or after the visa is granted we decide to move to Melbourne for instance, do we have to tell DIMIA?

Yup - I'll second Badri's answer. We have our 136 skilled independent visas (which in fact arrived in our passports today after only being sent to London on Thursday) and now the world is our oyster! Well, Australia at least.........!

The decision is yours!

Does anyone know the reason why DIMIA ask this on the skilled independent application form?

Being able to move around freely and/or to change our minds from the outset makes life easier, I think what we will do though is to ensure that if we say QLD that we validate our visa in QLD, and then see what the future brings.

Thanks for Info...

No, doesn't matter if applying for BN 136 Skilled Independent, you are free to choose wherever you wanna go. Spnsored classes are of course a different matter.

They won't care where you validate your visa.

Actually this is only a restriction on STNI or SIR visas, not 138 or 139 type australian sponsored visas. Even though for a 139 visa the sponsor must be living in a "designated area" there is no restriction on the visa applicant to actually live in any particular area. I suppose this is a bit of an assumption on DIMIA's part that the sponsored immigrant will want to live close to their sponsor. I'm sure this does hold true for many people, but it is not formally required of the visa.

Cheers,
Brian
