I think someone seriously needs to take-up the case of Pakistanis with DIAC at a proper level/platform, things are going nowhere like this
DIAC needs to clarify its position on Pakistani applicants, there seems to be some kind of administrative hold on visas for Pakistani GSM appliacnts

Dude, it's not only Pakistan, rather Iran, Afghanistan and Iraq are also being treated same way... it's really unfortunate for us that we've become a security threat for different countries and they are not preferring us over others due to their national security....

An interesting point to make is, Pakistanis are still getting student visas, after all the security checks, of course. Time range between 5 months to 1 year+. Therefore, things are not hopeless for Pakistan yet. I suppose security checks are as extensive for student visas as in case of immigration. I don't think Australians will be willing to risk anything in case of students, so they are checking them as well.

I don't think so security checks for both visa types will be same. Student visa is a temporary visa which is bound to a limit, but PR is unlimited so they must be more sensitive towards PR. There is a difference therefore student visas are being granted, but PR Visas have been frozen...anyways let's hope for the best

same for me dude, everything has met long ago in Nov 2009. It's been 6 months and have not heard anything yet... even not a single Pakistani has got a visa from Apr 2009, it's more than 12 months. What kind of the security checks for Pakistan it is which are not being executed fully even for a single applicant in 13 months... it's very depressing situation..

these are definitely not security checks, it seems that they are following some unannounced policy which has put all Pakistani applications on hold

Security checks have often been known to take over a year, and Pakistan seems to be particularly slow in its replies. Nothing you can do except wait I'm afraid.

I mentioned that one of my friend from Pakistan got visa in feb 10 and he applied in May 09. He never visited any forums, neither did I until recently. Believe me there are thousands of Pakistan applicants outside this forum whose situation we are not aware of, like the case with my friend.

From memory there are 35 or so questions on form 80 and most have multiple things to enter. How on earth do you expect anybody on here to know what extra information they want?
