Second part of De Facto Spouse visa

Hello,

Just wondering if anybody knows how long it takes for the second part of a de facto spouse visa (801) (i.e. the permanent residency two years after the temp is granted) to be processed and approved, from the day the second lot of paperwork is handed in?

Cheers.

Firstly, its two years from application rather than grant :)
Secondly, varies a lot depneding on where the applcaition is lodged - some offices process faster than others at various times. Which city are you lodging it in?

Ah yes.. two years from application. The immigration office has told me that I am due for my 'letter' at the end of August... but they also said that the standard processing time is 6-9months... which I think sounds like quite a long time... I am applying in Canberra... and the first part of my visa took 5 days from lodgement to grant.

Standard time is usually worst case only. Mine was Brisbane, took about 6 weeks I thnk. Hopefully someone with Canberra experience will come along soon.

Thanks Pollyana.

Good to know that it took 6 weeks for you. I guess it does depend on where you lodge it. I plan on having everything ready to go when I receive the letter, hopefully that will speed up things. I guess all I can do is exactly that, lodge as soon as possible and sit back and wait... sigh. But I guess it just helps knowing when you can expect to hear something.

Thanks again.

Hi there,

I got my second stage Perm Res visa about a month ago, which was 2 months after I sent the whole pack in. I was even 1 1/2 months late (by request and request granted) due to our house move and new job responsibilities and forgetting to get my Australian police cert!

So, my timeline was:

Beginning Feb 08: receive Immi letter/pack
1 April, 08: Due date, ask for extention. Granted to mid-May
15 May, 08: sent pack off to Melbourne office
mid July, 08: received most stuff back along with grant letter.

It was kinda anti-climatic because you don't have to get it evidenced in your passport unless you're traveling abroad.

Good luck!

Moste certainly depends where you lodge and the current wait time. We have been told that our spouse visa could take 8 months (Sydney) so OH is on a bridging visa till then.

Oh, of course. I was told in the letter to expect 6-8 months and was absolutely shocked at that time! For that matter, I was also told 4-6 months to get my FBI check from the US, but that only took 4 weeks! It also depends on how complicated your case is as well as how complete your file is.

I will say I was shocked to get my grant letter so quickly because when I had called to ask some questions in March, the guy had told me there were only looking at Nov 2005 at that time (I was April 2006).

Luck of the draw maybe? :)

Thanks for your replies.

Sarahmaxx, I am just wondering, did you receive the letter exactly two months before the 2 years were up, or earlier or later?

Also, do I need to get all copies certified again?

I really appreciate hearing about all your experiences.

Cheers,

Mine took about 10 weeks submitted in Brisbane.

I had a friend who submitted hers around the same time also in Brisbane & had the visa grant letter sent back with the acknowledgement i.e. less than a week!
