Running out of options - 175 Visa

Hi,
My partner and I are in Sydney and I was lucky enough to get a 457 sponsored visa as a Personnel Consultant with my current employer, we are almost 1 year in and really want to apply for PR.
My employer has a no sponsor policy for PR so that is out and although I have ample points for a 175 I do not have a degree and the assessor is VETASSESS and I understand that a degree is essential.
I am studying for my MBA next year so know that when I have completed that I can apply but we do not want to wait that long.
My partner is an IT engineer and he also has no degree...
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Regards
Louise

Do you mean they don't know how to sponsor for PR, or that they refuse to sponsor?

Did you not ask about this before taking the job in the first place?

Can he get a skill assessment with the ACS through Recognised Prior Learning? http://www.acs.org.au

Then, could he look at either points tested migration options or perhaps his employer would sponsor him for ENS?

They will not sponsor PR, they are a huge global firm and reserve their spaces for very senior management and specialist roles (like our Japanese call centre, that requires native Japanese language skills)
I joined them on a working holiday visa so no I did not ask them if they sponsor PR, we had not decided if we wanted to stay at that stage... They sponsored my 457.

Get some professional assistance (try George Lombard in Sydney, search forum for contact details) but it may be that if your employer refuses to sponsor, then your partner may have better chances.

Hi Louise,

Personnel Consultant is a 50 point occupation, and as such - you're quite right - VETASSESS will want to see degree level qualifications before passing your assessment.

IT Engineer isn't on the SoL but if you can qualify under 'Computing Support Technician', that's a 40 pointer and dealt with by TRA, so depending on what kind of training you had (refer to the UAC) your partner may qualify and your role would change to spouse of the main applicant.

I'd phone a professional consultant and see what info you can get out of them.

Unclear exactly what is meant by "IT Engineer" but are you sure it wouldn't fall into one of the IT practitioner categories assessed by ACS?
