One of my friends has been staying in India since the time he had filed for his PR due to some personal reasons.He has just been on a validation trip.He has an MBA from Melbourne Business School and has a brother there who is a citizen.What would be the best way for him to file a RRV? His visa is already expired.

If he's never actually lived in Australia on his PR visa then it's going to be pretty difficult to show he has substantial ties to the country.

He may have validated then returned back to India where he's stayed since. The "must not enter after" date has passed.

This can be true, PR visa is usually valid for 5 years and in this case He just had validation trip and the validity period for PR visa had expired.

I think the OP meant "He was only on a validation trip", not he has just been there ...

Bur regardless of that - if his visa has already expired, on what basis would he want to apply for RRV?

The validation trip would have to be within the first year of holding the visa. If the visa has just expired then the validation trip would be a few years ago. Hence the fact that the statement as it stands is not very clear to the readers.

Regardless of that though, if his only contact with Australia has been the validation trip I doubt he would get a RRV.

No it can't. The validation has to be done in the first year that means that if he validated he didn't just do it, he must have done it over four years ago.

he did it 4 years ago. The only touch that remains is his brother is an oz citizen and he did his mba from MBS which is one of the best in the world.

Agree with you on validation trip with in 1 year of VISA issue. It appears in this case the person has done validation trip in the first year itself from the visa issue and then never returend to Australia untill PR Visa Expired.
