Returning to Australia...passport expired...
If your a duel citizen, holding both UK & Aussie passports & currently living in the UK, can you return to Australia using the UK passport?
Im thinking you cant & have tried to check on the imm page but cant seem to find the answer and renewing it would be much easier here back in Australia.
Thanks.

No, because you don't have a visa. You need to renew the Australian passport.

Thought so...was wishful thinking really as the passport is a childs one & needs renewing to an adult one so not an easy online application!

But why would they need a visa if they're citizens? Especially if they hold a citizenship certificate - would that not be sufficient? (If prepared to argue at immigration!)

Australian citizens should have an Australian passport to travel.
It isn't just immigration they would need to argue with, they would need to have a serious argument with the airline staff before they are allowed to fly. I wouldn't risk it for sake of the cost of a passport.

Agreed it's definitely much easier to get the Australian passport, but it is possible to travel without it:

You would have to wait until you got to the airport and rely on the airline you're flying with allowing you to board at check-in. Not a risk I'd be willing to run.
