I didn't think you could work at all on a tourist visa - regardless of who was paying the wage. Could be wrong though x

I guess it all depends on whether your work involves interacting with Australians via meetings etc. I can't think that if you are doing a proofreading job, for example, while being a tourist that it would be an issue but if you came as a tourist and then had meetings with clients or sold things as part of your paid work then you would be in breach of your visa. Probably need a bit more info

If it is a holiday but you are still doing some work that is unrelated to your location then should be fine.

My oh used to work on holiday for his own company, his clients rarely realised he was not in ins office! Didn't work every day though but did claim some expenses like wi fi dongles.

After all many people can work remotely these days. I think a few weeks is fine but several months could be an issue.

What is it you do? Is it normal for you to work from home occasionally? I thinks these are relevant questions you could be asked.
