Default Regional and State Visa

Could someone please tell me if there is a difference between a "Regionl" visa and a "State Nominated" visa. Is one more harder to get than the other ?

Thank you

Rob

Hi Rob

I think it is to do with whether or not your skill is on their list of most wanted skills, plus the fact that Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania are the only states that are are sponsoring through the STNI visa at the moment.

This is the list of most wanted skills for SA is here :-

http://www.immigration.sa.gov.au/sit...e_page_id=5491

This is what is said about the Regional sponsored migration scheme:-

The RSMS allows employers in regional or low population growth areas of Australia to fill skilled positions that they are unable to fill from the local labour market.

An employer can take part in the scheme if their business is in any area except Brisbane, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong, Melbourne and Perth.

Employers considering nominating persons under the RSMS may identify suitable nominees in various ways, including:

through their efforts in testing the local labour market;
personal contact and/or experience with the nominee;
recommendation from third parties;
through the department's Skill Matching program

I hope it helps

If you are thinking of what we anticipate will be the new regional skilled visas Rob, the answer to your second question is presently yes, as the State Nominated visa pathway exists and the criteria are relatively well known, whereas the regional skilled visa pathway doesn't exist at present, and the legislation hasn't yet been published.

Best regards.

Thanks Alan,

What with all these changes and all these visas that are available, it can get a little confusing.
