Default reducing working hours on 457 visa?

Hi There,

My mate has come over on a 457 visa, she is a nurse at the hospital I work at.
She wishes to see if she can reduce her hours from full time as they are struggling with childcare for her 5 kids, but cannot get any official guidance on it.
I came over on a RSMS visa and reduced my hours after a few months to 30pw due to child care issues, I had already emailed my case officer who said it was of no concern and that it was up to our employer. They would only be concerned if I dropped dramatically in hours or failed to do the job. They said they supported my decision to drop hours due to my child care issues. I had no problem with my employer.
Was I just very lucky those years ago, or is this a possibility for my friend?

Any feedback appreciated

Trish

The 457 visa is for full time workers. What does she want to reduce her hours to?

Yep, she would have to see what immigration will accept as full time hours. Either that or her none sponsored partner (assuming she has one) will have to drop their hours instead.

She would like to drop to .8 per fte so dropping one shift per week, I will tell her to keep on at immigration until she gets an answer....she can ask for PR visa once she has worked there for 3mths, which will be some time in January. Her husband is an IT expert, my idea is that they find him a job that will sponsor them so she can be casual and he be the main employer....not sure if thats a goer or not.
