Default Question about return tickets and visas

My husband, Asutralian, and I will be going to Australia in June before my spousal visa is processed (and hopefully approved). When I go through customs/entry at the airport, do I need to have a return ticket out of Australia? Since I will not have my visa, I wondered if they need evidence that I "intend" to depart...as they do for foreign travellers in the USA.

Also, if I have a misdemeanor (disorderly conduct when at university) from 1989 on my record (when I was 18) do I have to state it? If so, what info do they need?

Egad. If anyone has answers or advice, let me know...

Thanks!

Kathryn
