Query - Medicals & Entry Date - are they connected?

What I mean by the subject is the following:

Medicals are valid for 1 year from what I have learned from this forum. If we do our medicals now and submit before the cutoff date they have given us - 22nd April 2004. We presume that all will go well and medicals will be ok, but of course we have no idea how long it will take for them to go through our documents etc. So no idea how long into that 1 year validity it will be before it expires.

There is some confusion on our part as to the 6th month validity of medicals and the Entry date. Is there any connection here, meaning does your medical cert still have to be valid for another 6 months when you enter Australia.

Apologies for this somehwat confused question, but clarification always settles the nerves!

Thanks once again for all the advice & input on this forum - its been a great help!

Hi Tarryn,

normally once you are requested for your medicals and Police checks that means that DIMIA are processing your aplication and you shouldn't have too much longer to wait for the visa.

The general rule of thumb is that once you get the visa issued you get given what is termed an "Inital Entry date". That means you must enter Australia at least temporarily on or before that date, to get the entry stamp in your passport. Anybody else included in your application must also do this either at the same time or later but before the entry date. BUT they cant go earlier than the main applicant.

The initial entry date is normally give for the date 1 year later than the date of your police check or medical (whichever was done the earlier),

However some people with health proplems are required to do a health undertaking and then normally only get given 6 months to validate the entry date instead of the normal 12 months.

Hope this helps
