pros marriage visa - timing of medical?
Hello, just wondering if anyone has any advice re: how far in advance
it is worth getting the medical check done to go in with a prospective marriage visa. We are looking to front end load - probably putting the application in around May / June. Partner is in the Uk now - but will be visiting in Australia late March/April. My two questions are; Do we get the test done now - so it's ready to go later - or wait and do it in May when he goes back? What's a standard waiting time for them to come back? Know the medical is only valid for 12 months - but is that relative to the date of the application going in? the date of the application being approved (hopefully!) or the date of arrival in Australia? any advice would be appreciated. leigh |
Hi Leigh,
Not very clear about the dates was I! I'm told its valid for 12 months from when its done, and then if the marriage (& application for the next bit of the visa) falls within those 12 months it may be accepted as still valid - thought the nice people can ask you for another one if they feel theres any problems. I'd suggest doing it when he gets back over here, as long as he anticipates no health problems coming to light which need more investigation. Have to do X-ray first, but can then do the medical the same day if you are lucky, and then call back about 5 days later for the blood test results, so its all quite a quick process. Will be doing mine when I get back from Oz in late March, so I'll give you mroe details then! Hope that helps! Pollyana |
