Hi
Some of the Skilled Independent Visa occupations (189 visa) are in very high demand, so rather than the quota of places be taken at the beginning of the year the DIBP issue a set number of invitations on a pro rata basis throughout the year.

Oh okay.
Thank you for the information.

I think software engineers are part of the group- in high demand.

TeeTMI, what do you think the real destiny of accountants this year? Would it be really hard to get visa even with 70 points?

Predictions like that are crystal ball territory. There are quite a few factors involved some unpredictable.

Dear people, does anyone know why Accountants are marked with a star in the occupation ceiling table? Thanks

Because Australia already has enough accountants and the skill is not in that much demand. There has been talk of removing from the SOL for some time.

It is marked with a star because the DIBP have not removed it since they changed the details. Previously they had provided a figure that they later added the * to and clarified was the figure they were aiming for with both skilled independent and employer sponsored visas. They later reduced the figure to the one seen now - and removed the explanation text but have not removed the *.
