The Minister for Immigration has announced today that a Ministerial Direction is to
be issued to give priority processing to applications from nurses. This will cover
both permanent and temporary entry visa classes.

Alan, does this have any implications for IT people? Are they still to be fast tracked, or are nurses now taking first priority?

Hi Sheila.
No changes announced as yet to the processing of ICT applicants, so for now assume
that both will be identified in Adelaide and processed PDQ. With the increased
program numbers announced today for 2002/03 I'm not expecting there to be any change
on that front.
Incidentally, the High Commission in London has been informally fast tracking nurses
under the skilled program for about the last 6 months.

Hi all,
Not too sure what London are up to, we applied Jan 2001, Skilled Independent, Katies the main applicant, registered nurse. Around March 2002, following a call too AHC London, we received request for medicals and police checks, medicals went about 5 weeks ago and police checks 3 weeks ago since then .. nothing, I phoned a while back to check that the medicals had been received, as the doctor sent everything direct to AHC. And they had, but no more information was forthcoming.
I think I'm going to give them a quick call tomorrow, in light of the latest news from Australian government and see if they can offer us any sort of timescale.
I'll keep you all posted if I find anything interesting out.
Chris.
