Hi All.

Does anybody of you know if the applications are pre-checked when they arrive to Adelaide?
Or nothing is done then and they can be refused after year of waiting when migration officer finds out that basic requirements are not met?

AFAIK, you can wait the full 50 weeks (or however long) and still get binned.

Empirical evidence (as found in some posts in this forum) suggest that it is indeed possible to have your application refused even after a long period of inactivity in the queue. No news need not mean good news, I guess.

Some people have been given a rude shock that they did not meet the basic requirements (due to deeming date problems) after a long wait.

Essentially, getting the acknowledgement is no indication that you've passed the points test. All anyone can infer from the acknowledgement is that his/her application has reached DIMIA and that he/she is now poorer by a bit.

Adelaide do normally check applications on receipt - but only to see
if they're legally valid (in the jargon, do they meet the Schedule 1
criteria for the relevant visa class).

For someone applying for an offshore skilled independent visa, these
are relatively basic - is it the right form, right fee, has a
residential address, lodged in the right place - and has it got a
skills assessment.

That's it. If it's valid they take the money and issue an
acknowledgement and file number. There's no application of the basic
requirements or points test until much later in the process.

So it's quite possible to wait 40-50 weeks or more only to find out
you've been refused for some reason. Often the only option is to
re-apply, pay another fee, and join the back of the queue. That's of
course if you're still eligible to apply again.
