Hi,
I have been offered employment as an engineering manager, sponsored by the employer.
I am bound to the employer financially (contractually) for 2 years.
I do not and will not quality for the skilled migration points, because of my age
(currently 42).
Is there a mechanism to obtain a PR status, subsequent to the first 2 years, without
any obligation to remain with the same employer?
Any help will be appreciated.
John.

Bear in mind that you must be aged 44 or less to apply for Employer Nomination.

You may be eligible to be sponsored by your employer for PR through the Employer
Nomination Scheme. Information is on http://www.immi.gov.au
There's no need to work for your employer for 2 years before applying for ENS. Once
you have an employer sponsored visa you are free to work for anyone you like
(although if it's via the regional sponsored scheme you need to stay with your
employer for 2 years or your visa risks cancellation).
Even though a mainstream employer nomination visa does not bind you to your employer
under immigration rules, your employer might put a penalty clause into your contract
as a condition of sponsoring you for PR.
When you say you don't qualify for skilled migration, have you taken into account
that if you get 6 months experience in a skilled occupation in Australia, that will
get you an extra 5 points?
