Question police checks

hi all

question for you i am applying for a 457 visa (well mypartner is) we wanted to know what the police checks show what information does it give?????

457 does not need police check unless you are declaring convictions

hi thanks for replying i did something very silly when i was 18yrs i was given a 12month conditional discharge, which happened some 17 yrs ago do i declare this????

If ever in any doubt, declare it and get a police check done - if it shows up, they will not even question it as long as it is declared. If you declare it and it does not show up, this will not go against you.

That long ago, if its the only offence, it may well have been weeded, but I'd apply for a police check just in case.
If the check comes back positive, consider following the advice I gave in THIS thread

I think a conditional discharge may still be a conviction but would probably become spent after 12 months. It is not a question of whether it shows up or not on the police check, it is a question on whether you were convicted of anything, spent or unspent. Declaring it, is the only safe advice.

Hi,

I havent been on here for a couple of years but just read your post.

Im living in Sydney now, I applied in 2003 & got the green light in 2004. However, when i applied a guy i used to work with also got in and he had been in prison for 18 months!! So i would of thought 99% of applicants really need not worry about ploice checks.
