Police checks for 189 visa
Hi there,
Pliz help! I’m a UK Nurse. I’ve jus increased my points to 75 😁 with PTE! IELTS is a scam😡. I have booked Medicals for the family.
My query is the Police check. The Doha website says ‘You may meet the character requirement if you have no substantial criminal record’. Does it mean we are exempt form police checks or does everyone have to do them?

Have you received an invitation to apply?

Everyone will need one over the age of 16. I do not recommend doing medicals or police checks until the case officer requests which is after you have been invited and applied and towards the end of the process. There can be big issues by doing them too early

Then don't get medicals or police checks yet. You may not get an invitation for months - or not at all. As verystormy says, wait for the case officer to request them when (if) you get invited to apply.

Concur with the others, don't do it until asked for.
Police checks will be required. Unless there is some huge waiting time for medicals, like in months, put that off until asked for. Medicals are not a time-consuming process, the results get uploaded electronically from the medical centre to Home Affairs and processed usually within 72 hours.
The number to beat seems to have recently dropped down to 70, so OP seems to be in a good position for the upcoming round.
