Hi there,

(New to the Forum) I am a South African who has been living in the U.K. for the past 6 years. My Spouse application for migration to Aus. was sent at the end of May 2004. I was contacted by the Aus. High Comm. 3 weeks later, requesting medicals and clearances, etc. I got these things together(mostly) and sent them off 1 month later(end of June). I was then off on holiday but sent my passport in on the 28th Aug.

I am still waiting for my full birth certificate to be sent from S.A. Haven't heard from my C.O. yet. Will the lack of of this doc. slow my application process down? Is it normal to have one's passport taken for such a length of time?

Would I need another police clearance for S.A. if i haven't lived there for the past 5 or more years? ( I did submit one for the U.K)

Any advice would be welcome. T.Y.

As you left South Africa less than 10 years ago you will need a police clearance. Download and read form 47P for instructions.

Jeremy beat me to it with the police check answer, but I'll add - yesm, the lack of documents will slow it down as they won't issue the visa without them. And regarding your passport - they probably will not return it until the visa is granted, as it has to be physically entered into the passport.

Which is why, you're advised not to send your passport in if you are going to need it for travel in the near future.
