Default Parents Visits-temp or long term visas????

Hi All
Can anyone tell us how often our parents can visit us on holiday visas every year please?
A permanent visa would be the solution with them living with us as my wife is an only child but as this is a huge cost that they cant afford and the waiting list on the other aged visa weve been told 15 years which they may not have left grrr

Anyone had a similar experience and how have you managed?

Thanks Matt n Rach

Depends how long they want to stay each time. Cheapest and easiest is the evisitor, up to three months at a time. Longer term tourist visa such as the 676 allows for up to a year.

They can - but for the 676 visa (6 or 12 month) you usually have to show travel insurance, funds for duration of stay and a return ticket (or funds to buy one).

There is nothing to stop you reapplying but I expect suspicions may be aroused at the border if they were to reenter after one month out of the country after a 12 month stay.

All tourist visas are for tourists - not for people to be 'resident' in Australia. They may get turned away, or they may be allowed two 12 month visas close together - a third would be pushing it too far I would imagine.

If they really want to live in Australia then the CPV is the best option - very expensive but if they have a house in the UK could they use that to fund the visa costs?

Good luck.

Sounds like they want to live here, in which case they should be looking for the appropriate visa.

If they genuinely are only interested in visiting frequently, then it is adviseable for them to spend as much time offshore as they do on, e.g. 6 months Australia, 6 months UK.

My parents managed to do the 6 months here, 6 months there thing quite successfully for 15 years - they never indicated that they had any problems with that, just applied for their visa and got travel insurance and booked their flights.
