Parents visa - Medical?
 

Hi, Can anyone please provide any advice regarding the medical requirements for a parent visa.

We suspect my dad may have the very early stages of dementia - He has no family in the UK and we are wondering if he would be able to join us in Australia so we can take care of him.

Would he pass a medical (noting that he is otherwise fit and healthy and on no other meds) or is a dementia diagnosis an automatic fail?

Best advice would be to talk to an agent who specialises in medical conditions. By the time he would need to do the medical it is likely that his dementia would be further advanced and therefore more likely to be a drain on the Australian tax payer and so more likely to be rejected. It might be better if you can persuade him to move into supported accommodation in UK so you will know that he will be more secure in his home environment. Parent visas take a long time to be approved.

Don't know much about parent visas for Australia, but they seem pretty complicated.
The following website seems to provide wait times for various parent visas - depending on which one you go for.

One would have thought that someone with early dementia would bring into question the cost of such person's healthcare to both sponsor and country.
