Parents coming to australia
Hi,
I emigrated with my UK partner to Australia in 2002 and we both came as
permenant residents, and since become citizens :)
We love it here. My mother who is now 65 came out last year and she
also fell in love with the place. So as you can guess she would love to
move out here with her partner. I am trying to explore what options or
avenues they would have available to them.
My mother has a de-facto boyfriend/husband and they are both retired.
My mum has two sons, one which is myself, and her bf/husband has 2
daughters. All siblings are located in the UK apart from me.
She has briefly spoke to an migration agent who advised her that she
couldnt do the parent contributory visa, and if she wanted to do the
retirement visa she would need 600,000GBP. She does have some capital
but not in the order of 600K GBP. - so I am wondering if there are
other options that can be considered.
One idea I that crossed my mind was for them to emigrate to NZ, and
then coming to Australia? If I remember rightly that if you become a PR
of NZ and stay for 5 years you are entitled to come to Australia??
Don't know the details - but thought it might be worth pursueing this
ave?
Any help or advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Robert

If your parents are able to secure NZ permanent residence and subsequently NZ citizenship, they may live in Australia indefinitely on a NZ passport.
But, they will not be Australian permanent residents as such, and may have limited access to healthcare etc when compared to Australian permanent residents.
For completeness, NZ permanent residents have no special rights in Australia, and are treated as any other non-citizen visitors when in Australia.
