Parent visa process

Hi - we are looking into applying for a parent visa (103), ok, we know about the long wait times but the only option we can consider at the moment. Anyway my question is - at what point does the Assurance of Support need to be paid? Is it paid when the application is made?
Thanks

Are you sure you know how long the visa takes? Immi are reporting 30 years before they start processing.

The AOS is not payable until just before visa grant. Are you aware that this visa may be scrapped soon, by my reckoning round about March, so I would apply sooner rather than later.
