If you're thinking of getting parent visas for your aged parents, you should be prepared to wait for a looooong time. http://www.dima.gov.au/allforms/f_parent_intro.htm

However, new proposals should be interesting reading as well: http://www.dima.gov.au/allforms/f_parent_121102.htm

Keep an eye on the DIMIA website for details of the new Contributory
Parent visas.

You will need to be in Australia two years before being able to
sponsor. An assurance of support will be needed (A$10-15k bond for 10
years), and your parents will need to meet the balance of family test.

Finally there will be a visa charge of A$25k per adult, in addition to
the normal A$1745 application fee.

It's likely that the waiting time for the existing parent visa scheme
will fall - which avoids the A$25k charge and the high bond - but a
wait time in this category of at least 10 years will still be likely.
