Default Panicking now.

Am panicking now, I'm hearing/reading far too many horror stories about agents and am just wondering if we've been give the right advice?

As everyone is now aware the skills pathway D has being put on hold, which we thought was the end of our dreams, but our agent said we could go in on a sponsorship visa 457, but that this would be temporary. At this stage we thought anything was better than nothing, HOWEVER, the reality of it is that we are somewhat afraid of being 'temporary', there is me, OH, and 3 kids under 11 (+1 dog.....not OH....).

OH is Glazier (Flat glass tradesperson on sodl), has been doing the job for over 20 years, but has nothing formal - hence skills 175 not being applicable.

SO, my question is........is there ANY way we could get a permanent residency/visa???????????????

Cheers,
Donna......getting greyer by the minute!!!!

If you're going to go out on a 457 visa then be careful, with all those dependents that you can afford the school fees, and the healthcare insurances... bear in mind that in some states you are not entitled to these and they have to be factored into your everyday costings.

The good news is that you should be able get there without the pathway D and wait until they sort it out! and then you can apply for PR whilst you are there.... Remembering that nothing is certain, until the TRA have decided what they're going to do!

I know, that's the scary part, I mean it all sounds good, but we have to remain realistic.........or as realistic as we get lol. It's also why we wanted the reassurance of a permanent residency visa.

It may be worthwhile enquiring now, or when you get over there on a 457, about a workplace assessment for a Flatglass tradesperson. If successful, you can then apply for a GSM visa very soon after arriving in Australia. Or you can look into teeing up such an assessment on a visit over there as a strategy to arriving with a permanent visa later.

Hi Tony,
thanks for the reply, how would we go about the work place assessment...is this done through the employer or us?? And what is a GSM visa (would we be able to change from the 457 to this with out any hassle), and (sorry) does all this mean that we have to go out as a temp after all? Am really nervous about taking all the kids (and the dog) over with soooooo many unsures.
