Have applied for a 457 visa online. This is suppose to cut time right down as everything is done electronically. Had meds done today in york and they were sent instantly to Australian immi straight away and they would receive them instantly. Have been told applying this way takes total time for visa application 6 weeks. Has anyone done it this way and is this time estimate aboout right as we are suppose to start our jobs on 3rd dec and want to book flights ASAP but are a bit worried about booking flights before we get he visa. Any info would be great WISE ONES

there is a about 3 week wait on meds but you might be lucky as you did it online .

the waiting time for visa is about 8 weeks

my time line is as follows

20th august visa & nomination submitted

24th august meds arrived in sydney


18th september nomination approved

18th september meds processed and finalised

my status at the moment is processing further.

we hope to be in perth around middle of november

Our 457 visa came though in about 4 weeks - received confirmation about 3 days before we flew out. Admittedly we were having a 2 week holiday in the US on route, so we had a bit more time for email to arrive!

You can arrive in country with just the email confirmation as your passport is electronically tagged. We had printed out the email, but immigration didn't look at it. You then get your passports officially stamped after arrival.

We also did our medicals at a place that sent the results online and I think the visa came through about 10 days later. This was back in February.
