Default NZ PR: Advice on when to lodge application

Hello everyone,

Just a quick sketch of our situation in the hope that someone might
have gone thru the same thing maybe:

We want to move to NZ beginning next year since my husband has a
joboffer and a job starting in Feb 2004. We are taking our English
test (we're Dutch) in August and still have to do our medicals. This
is partly due to the fact that we are expecting our 2nd child in
September.

Should we wait with our PR application after the birth or hand it in
before? I believe that if we hand it in before our baby is not
included in the application and we would have to fill in another
application for him/her. Also my medical would not be complete since I
do not want to take an Xray at this stage.
On the other hand with all the changes recently is it wise to wait
with things?

Any advice?
Thanks in advance,
Irene

If you are ready to apply and will pass the points passmark, no need to delay/ wait for baby. Provided you have (later) been given PR approval, baby will be automatically approved too (before you enter NZ) provided baby passes medical and you pay the fees etc. A very simple application that will take 10 minutes to complete + medical + photos + fees (small).

We were in the same position a few months ago - expecting our third child
but otherwise nearly ready to complete our application. We spoke to NZ House
and explained our situation and they advised us to hand in our application
completed, noting that we were expecting late November, medical forms filled
in (mine without the x-ray as I was exempt being pregnant). We were told
that if PR was granted before the baby was born then it could be added after
the birth once we had sent them the birth certificate, baby's passport and
medical form. If we were still waiting for PR when the baby was born then
sending the same paperwork would just add it to our application. Either way,
it would not be a problem. The case officer didn't think it would cause any
delay in processing the forms so we handed in our stuff in June.

Thanks for the answers, we will go ahead and get our things together
a.s.a.p. to send everything off.
Probably good thing to have done it all, since a new baby will
probably take up most of our time when he/she is there ;o)
