Default NZ Mortgages

To all recent(ish) arrivals - have any of you had any issues with obtaining a mortgage? I moved to the UK from Oz 7 years ago and had all sorts of trouble getting any form of credit at all form many years - just wondering if I'll have same issue in NZ?

Thanks!

No, we have been in NZ since August and have just got a mortgage ( we move
in 2 weeks!!). There was no problems at all, very strait forward. All we
had to do was show we had the deposit and show 3 months bank statements to
prove that I don't go overdraw every month. Phil had to show his contract
of employment and we had it approved in a couple of days. As I recall that
was the same procedure as in the UK.

Not to sure about getting credit in a shop as I haven't done it. I have
been offered it a few times and I get the impression that as long as you
have PR and a job it is quite easy to get.

Talk about easy peasy lemon squeezy!!!!
We moved from the UK 5mths ago, and we obtaned a mortgage within 2 weeks of arrival! Admittedly my hubby had a job to come to and our mortgage was only 35% of the value of the house. We provided all the documents that Emmy mentions. Also what was great because our house was brand new and the % of mortgage small, a survey was not required. We found the process very user friendly and definately did not feel like we had to jump through so many hoops as in the UK.

Hi

No probs with ASB bank.
We were here about a month and my husband had started work. We had the
details of our old mortgage etc but not needed. We had approval in minutes
(while I was there), found a house same week-end and moved in 3 weeks later.
Much quicker than we were used to in the UK or US.
