NZ - Kindergarten Teacher Registration Required?
We are about to send off to NZQA to get my wife's qualifications assessed (Japanese 2-year degree in early-childhood education + kindergarten teacher's license + several years experience). I was just checking the regulations to see if we'd missed anything when I saw that "teacher" is one of the jobs where you have to register in order to be eligible for points in the PR application. Does anyone know if this includes kindergarten teachers? I looked at the NZ Teachers Council website and it isn't clear. Whereas primary and secondary teachers have to be registered to work anywhere - state or private schools - non-state kindergartens do not require registration. Therefore, my wife could use her qualifications to get a job in a private kindergarten without registering... therefore, she should be eligible for PR points without registering... is my optimistic take on things.
The problem is you have to have IELTS 7.0 in order to register as a teacher, and that is a very long way off. If registration is required, basically there's no point in us applying to NZQA.
Wishing I'd thought of this before we got all the documents together,
John
