If you need extra points, it simply means training yourself to be able to score extra points without actually having to increase your English ability and scoring a certain number of band(s) to get you to a required score.
Let me be clear - a band(s) score of 6 is a mandatory requirement. Anything above that, you can get extra point(s).

Yeah I did answer that. With the new system, you MUST get a minimum 7 in all and overall to qualify for ANY points.

Please don't call me "Dear". Most women I know don't appreciate being called by a term of affection by strangers.

Its a term that gets misused a lot on this forum by people who are not native English-speakers. Those people would do well to note Dorothy's comment as they could find themselves in some very tricky situations in Australia if they use the term "Dear" at the wrong time and to the wrong person.

Any scope for RPL applicants with over 10 years experience in the new points system?

Whatever it is, I personally find it demeaning. There are a lot of words which do not translate well from one language/culture to another. If you (general you) plan to live in Australia it would be a good idea to learn early on what can and cannot be said without causing offense.

Also, if 10 years is considered as relevant experience, then that's more points for you under the new system than the existing one.

Thanks lloydk.
I have to do an ACS re-assessment with an RPL (which I've completed, but not submitted) for network/security, but currently hitting a stumbling block with regard to code mappings on the VIC SS list.

Is that acceptable when writing letters in Australia?
Kind regards,

Hi,
According to the new points system, 10 points are awarded for offshore c
recognised apprenticeship.
In canada, we have 3 different stages of apprenticeship. level1 apprentice, level 2 and level 3.
Can a level 1 apprentice qualify or should have to be level 3?
Can someone tell me , according to the australian education system, is an apprenticeship in carpentry the same thing as AQF III in carpentry? and how long does an AQFIII in carpentry take to complete.
I found this link on http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/occupations/c/carpenter.htm
So does this say , you need AQFIII + 2 yrs experience to become a carpenter in australia or is this just for migration purposes?
Can someone clarify?
Thank you all

Put simply, having a score of band 6 (and not bands!) is a mandatory requirement.
If you need extra points, it simply means training yourself to be able to score extra points without actually having to increase your English ability and scoring a certain number of band(s) to get you to a required score.
