I'd be interested to know if the work experience has to be full-time or not.

Anyway, I think it's a positive change ... thumbs up for the extra points for English, even though I don't think it makes much sense to require 8 points out of 9 for IELTS in all 4 bands - that's something unachievable for non-native English speakers. I got 8 out of 9 in average but I don't think I could ever get 8 out of 9 in each band at the same time.

On another note, I know a couple of people that have been in Australia for 10+ years, studying, working, they're professionals. Their occupations are not on the new skills list and they still can't stay here - even though they've got perfect English and they're now fully integrated into the society. They work as graphic designers.

Document on DIAC website does not specifically state if it is 8 in each band or average score. Something they need to clarify asap.

From http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...ts-testfaq.pdf

- Superior English (a score of at least 8 in each of the four components of the IELTS test).

- Proficient English (a score of at least 7 in each of the four components of the IELTS test).

Hi George,

They have mentioned they are giving 10 points to a bachelor degree, what about profesionbnal qualifications like CIMA and ACCA they are considered as equivalent or higher than bachelors,so a person with CIMA qualification can gain the same mark awarded for bachelors ?

Though the new point system is very tough and targeted but still I do appreciate DIAC decision makers. This new point system will give them the cream resources from the world

Thanks.

I may agree with you. Because native speakers can easily score 20 points for language but for Asians even scoring 10 points will be tough

Good point, though even if you've studied in Australia for 2 years and gained 1 year of work experience back home and 1 year through the Professional Year programme, you still get 65 points with no English.

age 30 + english 0 + work experience 5 + overseas work experience 5 + bachelor 15 + australian study 5 + professional year 5 = 65 points

So from what I can work out, they will be assigning points to job related (trade qualifications) nearer the time?
