Hi everyone
We (myself, wife and child) activated our 175 visa in July this year.
There is a new arrival due in early Jan '11.
2 questions -
1) how easy is it to add the baby to our 175 visa?
2) does the visa we get for our new baby need to
be activated, ie do we all have to make another trip out
there to just activate the 1 visa? Note- we only plan to move
out for good at the end of 2012.
Thanks
Deon

Thanks Dorothy
I should have perhaps phrased my question better....
Is the process pretty straight forward to apply for a visa for
the baby AND will the new visa that we get in the name of
the baby need to be activated prior to us moving over end 2012.

Thanks Dorothy
it all seems pretty straight forward, although
I was always under the impression the baby
would have to get his/her own 175 , but this appears
to be a diff class visa ...
Thnks again for your help

It's all spelled out here http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/family/child/101/
I have a same question in my mind that we are expecting a baby too. from above link there is no information regarding the visa validation. does it means, there is no need to validate child visa.?
can you confirm please.

This might be a little too difficult but is definitely a good option for those having Permanent visas.
Why dont you guys plan the delivery of your child in the Australia (while on holidays in Australia during that time, if you have not planned the final move as yet). This way the child will be born as Australian citizen from day one and will get Australian passport.
This will save you guys from lot of trouble in future.
Cheers!!

We moved over in May and were in the same situation. We had validated our visa 2 years ago with a holiday and then we had a new baby this year. We needed to get a whole new visa for baby, including medicals for baby and new police checks for the parent as the original ones expire after 12 months. So as you validated in july this year (and obviously got police checks a few months before that), You guys will probably have to get new police checks done by the time you get around to getting visa for baby.
Once you get the visa you will have 12 months to validate the baby visa like the other one.
I was hoping all the hassle with forms, declarations etc was over for us but we had to do it all over again for the little one. There is quite a bit of paperwork. (and a bit of stress too)
Don't worry though, as long as the baby is healthy and you haven't murdered anyone in the last few months

Also if you didn't know unfortunately there is a new fee aswell, I think it was about $1500-$2000 as far as I can remember but I can check that.
Good luck and let me know if you need any more help with it.
