Default New Assurance of Support regs - refund possible?

In regard to the new regulations for not requiring to have AoS for skilled visas anymore, does anyone know if visa holders who have already have AoS can nowbe refunded the bond before the 2 years are up ?
We paid bond in March 2006, validated December 2006 and moved to Oz October 2007. Can we ask for our money back now? We are on a Subclass 139 - Designated Area Sponsored Visa

Hi Biggles,

No, afaik the refund authorised by Centrelink is only possible where the visa had not been granted by 1 January. In your situation I expect you would need to sit out the whole 30 months, ie it would be repayable in September this year.

cheers,

Would I have to as well George?
Is it 30 months from when the bond was finalised?
Why is it 30 months and not 24? or am I missing something somewhere. God they make this bloody process so sodding hard.

thanks

Hi

I would also like to know the answer. Our bond was placed October 2005, we landed here on February 4th 2006 - so it is now 24 months since we landed in Oz? I was under the impression we would be able to get our bond back now?

Thanks!

i called centrelink and asked them this question this week!!! your assuror gets a letter sent out on the 2 year mark, or near enough, and the monies get transferred into their account not long after. so it is 24 months and not 30 months - phew say i

Sounds like a plan!

You would be entitled anyway with the 2 years over now. The question was mainly whether those under 2 years could get their funds back since they appear to have abolished this rule for sponsored visas.
