Negative ACS assessment, what to do next?
Hi everyone,
Just received news from our agent that our acs application has been unsuccessful with the nominated occupation of ICT Business Analyst. Apparently we meet the qualification requirements no problem, but it's how they've calculated our employment experience against the occupation.
Is it possible to apply for a review, and nominate an alternate IT occupation? Has anyone been or is going through a similar situation?
Any advice would be of great help. Cheers.

There is an appeal/review process available with the ACS. I suggest you ask your agent to look into this.
If you nominate a different occupation that would need a new application.

It is possible to appeal but not a mere appeal, strengthen it with more reference letters for the role specific experience that you are trying to project..

We're currently reviewing some situations of this kind at the moment concerning home made ACS applications; bearing in mind that you will be assessed against whichever occupation you nominate. It pays to study the ANZSCO definitions, the ACS guidelines, and your CV very carefully. Particularly difficult for people who were previously assessed with MODL occupations and had delayed their applications.

As per the letter, "You have been assessed as meeting the qualification requirements for Group B of the ACS PIM 3, but do not satisfy the requirements for professional information technology experience of six (6) years in a field closely related to the skill occupation indicated that you intend to nominate in a General Skilled Migration application"
The work experience they calculated in total was 4 years.
Our agent's trying to contact the Assessor to see as to why the rest of the experience was not assessed, and to see which occupation would be a better fit to get reassessed to.
So I guess if no other occupation fits, then the absolute last option is to wait and gain another 2 years of experience

Your previous posts indicate you were initially intending for Systems Analyst.. why did you change it to Business Analyst? What exactly was the role? Did you apply for group A or B or C and how many years of experience was shown supported with reference letters?

At a recent event many people are making application based on a poor understanding of computer science roles. They based their application on job titles.
I did a home made ACS application for a BA and I got it

George it always pays to understand the role that you applying by looking at it from computer science view. ACS only uses the computer science defs.

its not easy to mix up this, as knowledgee of these roles becomes second nature. If you studied computing many years. If you look at the people in the ACS. Every one of them has good number of years within commerical envirnment. Plus educated to high level.
For example the assessore with assessed my application, had a PhD in computer science.

From reading the earlier posts, was there also a problem with the amount of experience the applicant had in the role? Less than 2 years as a Systems Analyst, but they were hoping that general IT experience would count? So the number of years experience was also an issue (not just the role).

Diploma or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Advanced Diploma with a major in ICT.
or
An Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor (undergraduate) degree, or Graduate Diploma, or higher qualification with a minor (sub-major) in ICT in a highly relevant field to the nominated occupation.
You fullfilled the qualifiation for Group B, what ICT related qualification had you put for yours case?
I think 6 years would not be purely for the occupation BA.They counted you for 4 years against the requirment of 5 years.Did you have 5 years of full time expereine for yours nominated occupation (BA)?If you fullfill one more year which comes to 5 from 4 then they assessed you for Group B altogther.
I would suggest to read Group B thoroughly where it is requirment for group B is 5 years of full time professional ICT work experience in a field closely related to the nominated occupation (In Yours Case BA), completed in the ten (10) years before the date of application for Skills Assessment.
Prove yours appeal with one year more to make it 5 from 4 to get Group B successfully.

Hi there, which areas did you focus your Key Areas of Knowledge on? Did you cover all or only on or two sections? Maybe the knowledge you submitted didn't fit with Business Analyst.....

Re: Negative ACS assessment, what to do next?
Could you specify your work experience? I think they might not have considered one of your company's work profile to be that of a BA. For the years which were not considered, were they of a different work nature than the others?
