Default Need your suggestion pleease :)

hi..

I am in a confusion and any help and opinions are v muc appreciated..

I have done my 4 yr full time Bachelors in Computer Science and Technology (it had more than 50% IT content) from a govt. autorized university.
After that I have currently a 3.4 year work experience in IT field working as a Software Tester.

My qn is.. should I apply to the IEA now by putting in a CDR ( as enginner nec) , or should I wait till i complete 4 yrs work ex. and then apply to the ACS?

Also, if I apply now to the IEA, and if i dont pass,, then will i still be eligible to apply to the ACS at a later stage?

Also, getting full 10 points in 'specific work exp.' part is must for me to make the 120 pt mark..

So kindly advice me keeping this in mind..

Thanks a ton in advance..

regards
sony

Hi Sony

I presume your degree is not from a Country that is a signatory to the Washington/Sydney accord. CDR as Engineer NEC would be very difficult application if you are not obviously working as an Engineer. I presume you ahve looked at the competencies involved with a CDR - if you did get through the CDR, I'm sure your experience would be considered to be in a closely related occupation as the Engineering classification would have been given largely on the basis of that experience - but the 10 points would not be guaranteed. Being so close to a relatively Easy ACS pathway with guaranteed 10 points for recent work experience looks the way to go.

If you were to have a crack at the CDR, no problem if they do not approve you, this will have no bearing on a subsequent ACS application.

Regards

Hi Sony,

Just to back up what Tony's said, I think that you might have an argument for assessment as an Engineering Technologist rather than an Engineer nec since you clearly don't have a conventional engineering degree. But by the time you've prepared and submitted a CDR and sweated out the issue of 5 or 10 points for work experience as against 5 points for a bachelor's degree level course studied in a community language you'll have used up a lot of the time dividend anyway.

Cheers,

George lombard

Hello Mr. George,

Thanks for your reply..

But it has left me a bit confused abt the points for specific work exp.

If I go the ACS way, will I get 10 points for specific work exp.? In what cases can i land up with 5 points?
I have done my 4 year Bachelors degree in English. And after that i;ve always been working as a software tester.

Also, I am working as a Software Tester, so do you think my SOS should be Computing Professional nec?

Thanks in advance.. im so grateful for some much needed assistance
