!! Mistake in DIMA website Skilled Occupations list (we hope!)
 

My partner has recently had her trade assessed by TRA as a Chef ASCO code 3322-11.
This is precisely what it says on the TRA assessment. All of the definitions we have
previously seen of this code are Chef - Head Chef. This IS exactly what my partner
has been for several years. We were just trying to confirm that my partners' trade is
still currently on the MODL list as we are on the verge of submitting our
application. Whilst looking for the current MODL list on DIMA's website I came across
the current Skilled Occupations List

Curiously it lists Chef - Head Chef as ASCO code 3322-01 and 3322-11 is just plain
old Chef!! We are assuming that this is a mistake on the part of DIMA's web
designers. My partners' being a Head Chef is a key part of our application and to
suddenly discover that she has been assessed wrongly at this stage is of great
concern to us. Especially as her TRA assessment only states Chef 3322-11. Can anyone
please confirm that this is indeed a mistake?

Well we paid our fee and downloaded the General Skilled Migration Booklet last year.
The Associate Professionals list on page 52 states quite categorically that Chef -
Head Chef is 3322-11. Furthermore, I downloaded Skilled Occupations List form 1121i
(design date 03/02) and this also has Chef - Head Chef as 3322-11. The DIMA webpage
that caused our confusion in the first place (dated 17.5.02):

states at the bottom of the skilled occupations list:

"ASCO code references are those contained in McLennan, W, ASCO - Australian
Standard Classification of Occupations, Second Edition, Australian Bureau of
Statistics, 1997"

So those codes have evidently remained unchanged since 1997. Most definitely an error
has occured somewhere along the line if we both have a recent DIMA publication - and
contradictory information is available on DIMA's own website - that claims opposite
codes for Chef & Head Chef. We are beginning to get stressed about this. We have, as
I'm sure everyone else does, spent a great deal of time and effort on our
applications to the point of being anal! The assessing authority was TRA. All we want
to be sure of is that my partner *has* been assessed as a Head Chef and, as the TRA
assessment is surprisingly inconclusive about this - just quoting "Chef" and the ASCO
code - we have only DIMA publications to go by. We are aware that it makes no
difference to the points she can claim for her trade, either chef with ASCO code
beginning 3322 gets 60 points plus the additional ones for being on the current MODL
list. TRA's own website:

is unhelpful on this issue as it only lists the trades that it assesses, referring to
the DIMA site for the relevant ASCO codes.
