My family and I will probably be shifting to Oz at the end of the year after
getting our PR.

Would like to asked a couple of question pertaining to this.
- Does that mean we are not allowed to leave the country for 2 years even on a short
vacation or else the effective date of the permanent move is consider void?
- How about if my work requires me to travel outside Oz, will it also affect my status of
having actually move permanently in Oz.

Hi,

there are absolutely no restrictions on movement when you hold a PR visa. So you can leave
and come back whenever you want to. After five years after the visa was issued you will
need a Resident Return Visa (RRV) to enter Australia.

But what about the 2 years residency "things". Is that the necessary requirement to be
eligible for application for Citizenship and/or unemployment benefit (which I prob won't
need, but a nice back up) etc.........???

What about this RRV, is it easy to apply once the 5 years period is up??

Regarding vacation or work outside Australia and unemployment benefits: If you work
overseas then you won't need unemployment benefits and if you don't have a job, I wouldn't
spend my money on overseas travel ;)

Regarding citizenship: If you are working overseas for an Australian company and your
family is in Australia, I don't think it should be a problem. See form 1027i for details:
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1027i.pdf Short vacations shouldn't be a problem.
That's only a few weeks a year.

Regarding RRV: An RRV shouldn't be a problem, especially if you have lived in Australia
for more than two years or your family lives there and you have worked for an Australian
company overseas.
