Migration Question
I am looking to either move to Australia or New Zealand. I am in the process of
having my qualifications assessed by ACS.
I am quite confident that I will pass the ACS eval, since I have 8 1/2 years exp in
Networking. I am also an MCSE/MCDBA/CNE/CNI, and currently in the process of getting
my CISSP certification.
I need to know:
1) How critical are the references with regards to the ACS eval? I do also have a
degree in IT from the US, and have also worked in California
2) Based on my qualification, how long will the process take? Any chance of finding a
job on contract? or as a consultant?
I do need some info on getting to NZ?
3) Based on my calculation I am only getting 22 points, the passing mark is 28, any
chance of me getting at least a work permit?
4) How is it possible to get points for NZ job experience if you are not even
considered unless u are a NZ PR?
5)Does anyone know of a reliable Migration consultant?
Thanks for any assistance

Answers:
3: You won't get a work deferral visa as you are not within 5 points of the passmark. You could wait and see if the passmark comes down, as if it goes down to 27 you could apply for PR, fail but be offered work deferral visa automatically, giving you 6 months in NZ to find a relevant job and reapply for PR with the job points. Alternatively, you can try (good luck! Blooming difficult but you might have skills in demand) to get a job offer from outside NZ (worth 8 points right now) and succeed in PR. You could also do the latter and get a limited term work permit through a sponsoring employer but I can't see the point when you would get PR anyway.
4. Yeah, Catch 22. WHV or standard work permit situation?
5. Email me privately through BritishExpats and I'll tell you mine, they were perfectly professional
All the best

Priority Visa Processing of ICT Occupations Ends
Author: Alan Collett Date: Tuesday, July 16, 2002
The Minister for Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs has announced
that priority visa processing arrangements for Information and Communications
Technology (ICT) workers have been suspended.
The decision to suspend priority processing follows the announcement by the Minister
for Employment and Workplace Relations that employment growth in the ICT industry had
plateaued and unemployment rates among computing professionals had risen
significantly over the past 12 months.
The Immigration Minister has noted that priority processing is no longer necessary in
the light of these changed circumstances but could be reactivated if there was a need
in the future.
More details are in the Immigration Minister's Press Release, which can be accessed
via the weblink below.

Re: Migration Question
You presumably have been on the NZ immigration site. You should be able to get a job
offer if you have IT experience and thus get a work permit. Once here apply for
residency (it is cheaper here!) That's what I did.

Re: Migration Question
Hi Jim,
References are not essential for ACS if you have an IT degree, but if you want MODL
points it would be useful to have them (or the CISSP certification).
The length of the process is now uncertain. Probably around one year all told.
Cheers
