Hi,
If anyone can help or can offer any general advice it would be very welcome.
I would love to migrate to Australia and hope to be able to submit the application in a year or so. I anticipate the Skilled Independant or STNI schemed look to be the best option.
I am a 27 year old IT UK professional. I write, speak and read english fluently, I have 5 years direct IT work experience. I do not have a job offer, reletvives in australia, no Australian qualifications or bonus points for large amounts of cash to throw in.
The bit the confuses me is this. I have a B-TEC National Diploma (Computing) and a B-TEC Higher National Certificate (Business Information Tehcnology). Is the HNC sufficient and acceptable as being comparable enough to qualify me in this area. As far as I know it's degree level but if anyone can clear this up and or offer any further useful advice it would be very welcome indeed.
Cheers,
Phil.

What if anything are the B-TEC Higher National qualifications comparable against? I thought they were higher education qualifications.
I know it's a definate step up from the National Diploma but is it worth anything in my cause to gain points for migration?

A HNC is one step down from a HND, which is one step down from a degree, so
no, it isn't degree level

does anyone know if the B-TEC HNC and HND programmes are comparable to either the Australian AQF Diploma or Australian AQF Advanced Diploma?
There seems to be little documentation available that determines exactly which types of qualifications are eligable to use and how they compare to suitable Australian counterparts.

I got accepted in 1997 with an HND in electronics (I was studying for an MSc
at the time, but it didnt count as I handn't completed the course at the
time of application).
At the time I had over 10 years IT experince (well atleast software
engineering. IT now seems to encompase Software Engineering (well I think).)
As far as I know, an HND is equivalent to an Ordinary degree, at least it
was good enough to get me on a Masters Degree course (3 years part time), I
had to show my serts to be accepted. But I think the point here is, at least
back in 1997, you didnt require a "degree" to be a qualified IT
professional, a Diploma in a related subject was good enough.
To be a Computer Programmer is fine with a diploma. But stricktly speaking
really you cant call yourself an Engineer without a degree and probably full
membership of a professional organisation like IEEE.
In Canada you have to be licenced to call yourself an Engineer which
includes taking exames.
The only real way to find out is to get your skills accessed by the ACS,
which make the decision anyway. It sounds like they dont take too long and
its reasonably cheap.
Cheers
