ACS - Positive Skills Assessment!
After three months we've received some fabulous news today - positive skills assessment under 2231-79 .Net Specialist!! We're so pleased but obviously a little disappointed as it would have been on CSL list etc, but still, a positive assessment is a good one!
I've read through many of the posts on here regarding 2231-79 .Net Specialist on the new SOL list - the ACS didn't provide any "transition" code, can anyone shed any more light as to what code we might now fall under?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Congrats
As for read across, if you check the stucky thread based on the DIAC briefings it mention a convergence.
Presumably for ASCO codes with a direct equivalent in the new ANZSCO codes you can use the current assessment. Where there is no direct read across then a new assessment will be required. How the individual assessing bodies manage that would be up to them. Please note that this is my reading of the thread and I have applied some measure of logic, probably not a good idea where DIAC are concerned

Re: ACS - Positive Skills Assessment!
Hey there,
congratulations on your +ve assessment, feels good dosen't it. Although there is a feeling of anti-climax also due to the current changes.
I too received +ve .NET Tech Specialist on May 4th and also wonder how the ASCO and ANZCO will translate. A ray of light (I'm hoping) though is that on my letter from the ACS they summarised my work experience as 'Software Developer' so I'm hoping that this will translate into '261312 Developer programmer' on the new SOL.
There is a chance though that the ACS/DIAC might see .NET as 'Web Developer' which isn't on the new SOL. I've already had a rant on this site about how .NET isn't exclusively Web Development anymore and how cloud based, online applications, based on .NET are much more than websites and more online software applications.
I hope the boffins at ACS recognise how web-based application development is more than web development.
Good luck.

latest info in GSM offshore VISA has been published by DIAC
Here is the link to follow it.
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener.../whats-new.htm
Does this means that we can apply for VISA on 30th june as per old SOL and policy?
Changes to the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program from 1 July 2010 – 11 June 2010
Previously announced changes affecting the GSM program will come into effect on 1 July 2010.
See: Changes to the General Skilled Migration Program (362KB PDF file)
If you are intending to apply online for a GSM visa before 1 July 2010, we recommend that you lodge your online application well before 6 pm AEST (GMT + 10) on Wednesday 30 June 2010 as the implementation of these and other departmental system changes is likely to cause a systems outage.
See: Planned System Maintenance and Technical Issues
Applicants are advised to note planned system maintenance times before commencing an eVisa application, as planned maintenance will prevent a commenced application from being lodged. The department is not able to accept and back-date applications which have been commenced but not finally submitted through eVisa as a result of planned system maintenance or an outage.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Re: New Skilled Occupation Lists
Don't know when states will release their SMP lists and ACS will announce "Concordance" plan. Are the States bound to include Scedule 4 professions in their future SMP lists?

I think things have started moving finally and we should see some announcement from ACS or DIAC soon..
Also, the SMP maybe coming our way within this week.

Re: New Skilled Occupation Lists
Hi Foha,
I noticed one thing on the Schedule 4 SOL list. It contains "Software and Application Programmers nec" though Its not on new SOL released by DIAC. And if I am not wrong all potential 176 visa applicants can refer Schedule 4 list right?
I have seen the correspondence table released by "Australian Bureau of Statistics" and found a match of "Software and Application Programmers nec" with ASCO 2231-79 which is our occupation.
You can also see the table here : http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/[email protected]?OpenDocument
Update.
Thanks..

Bermuda,
I have one question, hope you can give me some idea.. I applied in march for Vic SS. My application is still in-process. I applied under 2231-79 (Linux). Since I dont know the equivalent of it in AZNSCO (I dont know if there is even an equivalent!), Will they trash my application or will they ask me to get it validated from the ACS under the new codes. I know "NOBODY CAN ANSWER THAT..." but I am asking for your opinion on this.
Cheers,
TAA

I have seen the table but nobody know how ACS are gonna converge the ASCO codes to ANZSCO ones. 2231-79 matches to almost every IT code in the ANZSCO list (partial match). Lets see what happens..
If you take my occupation, 2231-79 LINUX specialist, I see no way I can be automatically converted to ANY AZNSCO code. My job duties match to Business System analyst but ACS has recognized my experience as "TECHNICAL SUPPORT".
Realistically speaking, I will be going to ACS again to get myself assessed as 261111 - Business System Analyst and I have to do a LOT of paper work unless some miracle happens. But in your case, I think your skill can be mapped to atleast 2 of the current ANZSCO codes.
As for Schedule 4, Yes it brings some good news as many of us will be able to apply IF state sponsored.

Thanks Foha,
How about your VIC SS process ? Is it still pending ? I recommend you to try for another state as well because VIC takes much time and at the end they reject applications especially the IT guys so I think you should not hope and waste your time.
Thanks..

ACS queries resulting from new skills list
Hi,
Can any one guide me:
I had applied for Victoria SS in March 2010. Before victoria SS decision, just wondering if i can apply for SS of any other state.
I was evaluated by ACS on 2231-79 (Oracle Specialist). My experience is on two major streams of Oracle:
As Oracle Programmer/Developer. [ 4 years and 8 month]
As Oracle Database administrator. [8 months]
i.e More than 85% of my experience is as Oracle Developer/Programmer
My ACS skills assessment was based on ACS/DIAC’s (old) rules, which do not differentiate on which stream of Oracle an applicant has been assessed on; as Oracle developer OR as Oracle Database administrator (DBA) i.e same ASCO code 2231-79 is used for Oracle Developers & Oracle Database Administrators.
If I apply for 175, looking at current SOL, how can I convince DIAC that I am Developer and not DBA (as DBAs are not in new SOL)...should I get another letter from ACS that i am Developer Programmer (ANZCO 261312).
Thanks
Ahmad

ACS evaluated me as an oracle specialist 2231-79 , they did not mention anywhere that either i have been evaluated as software developer , software engineer , analyst programmer or database administrator. I think for that case just wait for equivalent ANZSCO for 2231-79.
Its my speculation but does'nt seem to me hanky panky aint?
