I understand, that is my biggest worry too. i know myself and my husband have no other health problems, but i knew that the one thing that could screw us over was the BP, hence we are both doing whatever we can to ensure we maintain a healthier lifestyle and have the best reading possible on the day!(well at least until after the meds! lol)
i've heard that people with high blood pressure have been approved as their BP is controlled via medication. i'm sure you will be fine! let us know how you get on!

My high blood pressure is controlled by medication. At medicals the panel doctor just asked me what I take, my BP was "acceptable" and my med's have just been cleared.

Neither of us have been prescribed meds and have been told that they don'tthink it is high enough to warrant it - now I am thinking that maybe they should ave I am going to call the Dr we have the meds with tomorrow and ask his advise I don't want to pay all that money and fail - would rather go back to GP and be prescribed something so that I have more chance of getting through the meds! You come so far and you think last hurdle this is it and then something like this

Hello fellow Kanbi,

I just got back from having my meds, my blood pressure was very high when first measured, the doctor told me this was probably due to being nervous. After 10 minute it was measured again and was normal.

Don't worry about it too much (only increases blood pressure!!!), just go for it and you should be OK.

Whilst on the topic of meds, I have put togeter a small spreadsheet that shows the cost for a few of the med centres close to london. PM me your email address if you want a copy of it.

Few other things that might help.

cut out the salt in your diet (cook from scratch)
stop drinking tea and coffee
cut out the alcohol (this really puts it up)
go to the gym (this really brings it down)
by a monitor so you know what to expect (check before and after going to the gym to see the difference it makes)

About a month before the med, start getting really healthy, drink lots of water(particularly the day of the med) eat only fresh food etc, etc, you will see a huge difference.

Hope this helps

i think the doc managed to scare him a bit, so he's going onto a health regime, eating healthy, joining the gym etc so hopefully things will calm down by the time we are requested to do meds in 6-8 months time.
i'll definately tell him to start chomping on more banana's!

do you know if it's poss to fail meds due to high blood pressure that may not be white coat hypertension related?

Well hopefully there won't be many things i will have to cut down on, in case my BP decides to go haywire on me! Booze i can handle, i went through my binge drinking faze when i was younger! Can't quite hack it anymore!
As for where we are heading, providing all goes well and visa is granted in superspeed time, we are also hoping to go by the end of next year. luckily for us, we don't actually have our own place that we need to try and sell, so we can literally just up and leave!
we're planning on heading for Perth, but Melbourne is another alternative.
what about you?

Your lucky not having to worry about the house side of things but we are getting closer a 2nd viewing this weekend - so that is only good news - slightly less money to take with us but these things happen! We are off to Canberra - OH has been offered a job there and he always said that he would only go if there was a job already there for him. Wasn't too sure to begin with but done lots of research and am looking forward to it now - beach a drive away and the snow plains in the winter what more could we ask for!!?? We are hoping to be gone by the end of August at the latest fingers crossed eh! Let me know how your meds go when you have them.

Oh YAY!
congrats Faircity, I am SO chuffed for you! that must be such a huge relief for you...exciting news mate!
When are you hoping to go out there?
My husband and I can finally lodge our visa application, we received my positive assessment from Vetasses, so I'm well excited too, but slightly scared as I still can't believe we're doing this!
