We had our medicals in Manchester at the end of June. Have to say it was quite easy
Height and weight done and BMI worked out ( mine was less than I thought )
Took BP and pulse
Listened to heart and lungs
Blood tests
Urine test
Felt abdomen
Tested reflexes
Checked through medical forms
Then had chest xray
Took about 1 hour in all for 2 of us
Cost about £400
Worst bit was the wait whilst it cleared LCU which took weeks but got our visa 4th October so all fine
Good luck with yours. Unless you have serious medical problems I'm sure it will be fine

Hi there,

we have ours in Manchester on Monday. Do they do the blood tests on everyone there? The referal letter I have printed off only says xrays and medical examination. I'm hoping no blood tests as that would be about £100 extra each. Thanks

Hi,

We had ours done in Jersey 5 of us me oh and 3 children. It was pretty straightforward height weight bmi reflexes eye test checked heart lungs stomach reflexes blood pressure. Had blood taken only me and oh check for hiv. If you are in the medical field and I think working with kids you have to have other blood tests. Our doctor was really good with the girls made them laugh and put them at ease and told us we had nothing to worry about which made it all less painful!

Good luck

Thanks, which blood tests did you need? I phoned them today but just got a woman who didn't want to talk to me. She did say we would probably need HIV, but couldn't tell me about the other tests they have on their price list. I was trying to explain to her that if we have to have all of the blood tests they list that would be an extra £85 each, and obviously we would like to take the right money. Just bring the extra money she says.

everyone needs to have the HIV test- these are normally included in the price of the medicals.

The other blood tests for hepatitis need to be done if you are going to work in healthcare, or have tattoos and/or body piercings (though not always) or if you've had a blood transfusion or if you've been to a high risk country. If any of these apply then you should take the extra cash.

You dont need blood tests if you are going on a student visa, if that helps.
