Mechanical Engineering CDR
 

Hi there,

has anyone passed successfully the skills assessment by Engineers Australia as a Mechanical Engineer (ASCO 2126-11)? I have applied for ASCO 2126-11 but received a letter from IEAust stating that I have provided insufficient detail of my engineering work. They recommend to accept either ASCO 2126-13 Production Engineer or 2129-19 Industrial Engineer. As I need the additional 15 points from the MODL for a subclass 175, I'd like to figure out what exactly is missing in my CDR in order to resubmit my CDR for getting approval as Mechanical Engineer. Unfortunaltely, 2126-13 and 2129-19 are not on the MODL and if I would accept one of these, I would obviously have to apply either under subclass 176 or 475 - which is not the intended goal!

Hello..

It seems to me that you work in a factory or so. However, I am no mechanical engineer, but I can assume that showing knowledge in 3 different areas of mechanical engineering (each in a separate career episode) would be sufficient.

For example, write one episode about the role of mechanical engineers in buildings, like HVAC, plumbing, or Fire Fighting systems (sprinklers or so).

Another career episode about engines, or internal compustion. While the third one can be about factories, or production lines/processes.

I also recommend writing something on sustainable design, since they are so excited about sustainability in OZ. Like for example, the utilization of sun light in buildings while preventing unwanted heat gain.

Tell me about the career episodes you submitted.

What is your main qualification?

MODL points are only obtained if you have at least 12 months of experience in the last 4 years in the given occupation. Your work experience/reference letter should clearly mention mechanical engineer.

Just receiving +ve assessment from IEAust as Mechanical Engineer will NOT give you MODL points.

Please comment, in case if he did not receive MODL points in case his job is not titled as Mechanical Engineer, but is assessed as Mechanical engineer by Eng. Australia. Then can he get state sponsored nomination, if any state has nominated Mechanical Engineer???

Thanks for all responses so far. Following my apprenticeship as a toolmaker, I received a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences (in Germany it is called Fachhochschule). For the past 13.5 years, I have worked in different roles like project planning, quality management and configuration management. The latter is my current position. My latest interim appraisal as a configuration manager does not mention mechanical engineering as a discipline but includes to my understanding sufficient engineering tasks which should be satisfying for IEAust.

Im just starting to pull my CDR together . . . just need to get into a creative zone!

Im a Project Manager from Mechanical engineering background - so trying to ensure I get max points for imigration prospect.

Not a CDR question, but related - my husband has a BEng in Mechanical Engineering, but works as a mechanical building services engineer - he's doing the application under Washington Accord, so no CDR, but will they class him as a Mechanical Engineer based on his degree, or will they class him as something else based on his work experience? We need him to be Mechanical Engineer or Engineering Manager for the MODL points (175 visa)

It is what he writes in the application form.

There is a question " Your field of Engineering " , they will assess you against your own words. As long as you write " mechanical engineer" there should be no problems. So dont worry :)

The thing is that there isn't anywhere to put your field of engineering on the Washington Accord application form - so not sure how it will work. Presumably it will be ok, because his degree is mechanical?

Did I miss anything? To me, it's still unknown whether KUDU may apply under Washington or Sydney Accord. As long as he asks for help in preparing his CDR, I assume he needs to apply for skills recognition with IEAust.

Sorry, think that was a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, I cannot tell anything about the procedures under the Washington Accord.
