ME and Depression on a medical ( 457 )
I have found a sponsor and looking to go through the 457 visa
application.
My question is for the last 6 years my prtner has suffered with ME ( a
form of depression ) she is OK now but still on medication, as she has
to take it for a year after she is ok.
Will this information hinder our application ???
not wishing to make my partner out to be the problem, but when she was
16 she got caught shoplfting ( 23 years ago ) could this also hinder
us with the police check ??
HELP

ME is more than depression, I have a cousin who has it and it is debilitating at the best of times and she doesn't have many of them.
You would have to speak to someone in the know (the docs at the med or someone).
sorry can't help you more

Not sure on the medical front, but for the shop lifting I don't think this is a problem.
I beleive that only criminal offences where you've been imprisoned for a period of 12 months or more will be a major problem. Although that is for a subclass 136 visa. Check the DIMIA website, that's where I read it.

Re: ME and Depression on a medical ( 457 )
We have just been granted our 457 visas.
There was no requirement to have a medical or police check. the only thing you require is an xray.
As far as I know, but correct me if I am wrong -If you were to go for a permanent visa however, you will have to have medicals, xrays and police checks. With regard to your medical they are looking for mainly tb, also interested if someone is on permanent medication whether it is going to be expensive. If worried about this for the future, pop into your local pharmacy and they will give you a costing immediately on the medication she is on. I think you will be surprised how much cheaper it is than you thought.

The shoplifting can not be a problem unless it is not declared on the form.
Ususally, no medical is required except where your intended activity would warrant it e.g. attending class/School, health care workers. Question 26 on your visa pplication Form (1066) questions you on you and your family's health and you will have to declare your wife's condition there. This will trigger the requirement for your wife to attend to a medical and specialist report on her condition. DIMIA will then assess her against the health criteria and may not have a problem. If there is a problem, there is provision for your employer (sponsor) to guarantee that any medical costs incurred will be covered by them. So it will be an issue but as long as the condition is under control and the prognosis is good, and any nmedication is not tto costly, then I don't think it will require the Minister to waiver the health requirement on the basis that your emplyer will cover all medical costs.
