Re: March Applicants
Hi everyone
We also cant sell house i'm soooo fed up. going to wait till Apirl if not sold then book to go and validate visa's. Got till 4th July. WE also cant really afford to just go for a holiday as not taking much money over and this would eat into it. The worst part is nothing you can do but sit and wait again!

Hi all
Been a bit quite for a bit, but now the fireworks have exploded, booked flights to Sydney yesterday OH flies out 9th March me and daughter fly out 15th March, via Singapore. Have to fly out separate as Hubby starts work on the 17th March, and as I work in a school can only get a few days off before the Easter hols start.
I must say it felt pretty scary booking the flights, especialy as hubby's is a one way flight I have to come back so daughter can finish school and sell house etc.etc etc (oh joy)
Hope you all start selling your houses now spring is just round the corner ~ they say thats when things start happening.
Good luck all

Re: March Applicants
Don't think we haven't thought about it because we have, we have the additional problem that it would be my parents who would have power of attorney and as they live in Scotland and we are in England, you are then up against two different legal systems!
Also looking at the tax options if I am correct, you have only two years to sell your property and after that when/if you do sell after the two year point you are liable for tax at 40% in OZ (thats if you transfer the money to OZ). (Someone please correct me on this if I am wrong). So in the long run for us we really need to sell.
Grammar has gone to point tonight so excuse the brackets, I am too lazy to amend it.
So for all of us in the same boat trying to sell our properties, good luck.

Ps Rumour has it that it looks likely that USA will be cutting their interest rates in the next month and if that happens we may also get a cut. So keep your fingers crossed as that will also be a help.

I thought it was the first 6 months and then you pay tax?
But why not have the estate agent as the attorney is what I meant, they still have to run everything by you?

Re: March Applicants
hiya all. can fully understand where your coming from with the house selling, ours did get an offer strait away so in that respect we were lucky , but then booked the flights thinking it would all go through in time and it didnt, so ended up having to rebook and pay for a date change, thought we'd never get here, and it would all just fall through but we got here in the end, so really hope it works out you guys, stick with it and i understand for some people it isnt a choice to validate before,as our money was in our house, as it was, got totally screwed with that, but thats another story . good luck to you all xxx

Hi all,
Bad news about all your houses eh. :curse: Glad we sold it before the visa and rented it back off them (they were in a different country) as it turned out we were better off. however either way i hope it all works out for you, i've nearly forgot all the heartache now from before we left. Its amazing what a few weeks off and a bit of sunshine can do.
Simons holiday officially finished Tuesday, he started work after 10 ish weeks off! He's made up for all the years he hasnt taken any!
Works easy, eye's shut stuff, 8-4 mon-fri, got van and local work. up in morning catches a few waves then home, shower, see ya! Alright for some, i've still got all the bloody Gromits!
Abi also started school Tuesday, she is nearly 11 Y6. The first day she had 1 friend, yesterday 5, today she rode her bike, met up with all the kids and knows everyone! kids are great at adapting. She had her first lesson in Japanese yesterday too! They all get her to say funny stuff with her accent. She is the only Pom in the class (26) but loads in the school. She loves it.
So that leaves little old me, all on my own with the 3 boys, 3 1/2 and twins at 26mths. . . . . . . . . . . . . . I went & checked out the Nursury today!
My diary is full of contacts/friends. not even met them all yet, but most expats from this site. its nice cos you've all done it. Some you see again, some you dont. Yet i figure at least if you meet them you're bound to get to know someone you really get on with..
I got my girls Kelsey, Colleen & Annie. There are others who i'm growing closer too and got a girls nite out planned for the 8th Feb.
You meet loads of people and life is a bit hectic at first, but its all calming down now and i will get in touch with people i have only met once or twice and make more of an effort.
Overall, the weathers good, a little sticky from time to time and the storms (dont get me started on those!) But life is good, a little poorer than in the UK, but richer in lifestyle & the kids see daddy everyday & i have finally got a full-time husband.
So when anyone asks me the question, is it/ was it worth it? I say Yes, yes, yes, all the time.
Life is definately for living!
Good luck & remember the good life is just around the corner and all this immigration crap will be a distant memory!
Karma to you all,

Re: March Applicants
Hi Everyone
It's been a looonng time and at the same time, no time at all. So you can guess that we got over here. We have been here in Perth 5 weeks and 1 day. I started work this week, otherwise we have not stopped, I repeat we have literally not stopped since.... well it's been so long.
The house sale fell through again on 12/12/07 and a week later we had made the decision to get the removal people in and go. Christmas day saw me finishing my night shift (nursing) at 8 am and we were on the flight to Australia via Singapore at 6 15 pm. Yes I was knackered but it was worth it. Even if OH had thrown the kids few little gifts out with all the other black binliners that we had got for the kids, so they had virtually nothing, but they were as good as gold and never said a word.
We have moved 3 times and now are in our long term rental 4x2 ($400 per week) it's huge and fantastic. For the first few weeks and even still now our catch phrase has been "we live here"!
It is very hard to remember that we have a house to sell still in the uk at times. We have had 2 offers in the last 10 days, both £15 - 20k below the already reduced by £10 000 for a quick sale. We are holding in there, but some thing has got to happen in the next few months. We are happy, Perth is beautiful, we have got the kids starting school next week, (our chappie with learning difficulties has already got appointments to see the school psycholigist and it took us nearly 4 yrs to get where we are with him with the uk system) Don't know what else to say, I'm a bit tired after my 40 hr week, I'm not used to it, we've just got to find John a job and then I can give up a bit. He has become a bit more domesticated, and has done all the school books and uniform shop on his own with them, so I have at least missed out on that, but that's another story.
Good luck Guys I am sure it will all come good for all of us in the end.

Re: March Applicants
congrats all those with good news
bad news here still couldnt sell house at 20 grand under wot was initially valued at and we cant afford to lose anymore money so we today took the drastic desicion to take it off the market there was no way even if we sold it would complete in time for us to get our equity out and book flights etc in time anyway so we had to make a desicion, so for now its off the market and we gonna look at our options now in next few days and see where we go from here!!dont ask me wot we gonna do now cos we really dont know at this point, we never planned for wot we would do if house didnt sell because we didnt ever think we would be in this position
we dont have the funds to validate so barring a miracle its possible our visa will expire and we wont be going, which scares the pants off me with all we been through to get it, maybe we being told we arent meant to get there or we have to fight harder to get there i really dont know, we have someone coming out monday from one of those companies that buys ur house cheaply and from wot they told us on phone if they give us wot they said we could just manage the move, would have no equity left after flights and set up costs but hey ho we wouldnt mind having to work hard to get what we want, we been doing it all our lives!! it all depends really if they come through with the initial price they gave us cos any less and no way we could do it, so right at this minute our lives are in a complete mess and until monday it could go any way!! scary stuff, still never mind eh will know monday whether or not its meant to be
good luck all those still trying to sell up and i do hope u dont face the desicions we are facing right now!!
have a great weekend all
