Default Making 1st entry in Australia on 189

Hi Guys,

I am about to make my first entry in Australia on 189. My spouse is also included in the visa as a secondary applicant. Just wanted to know is it mandatory for both primary and secondary applicants to make the first entry together or we can do it separately?
For some work related issues, my plan is to reach Australia first and then my wife will join in a few days time. (Obviously before our last entry date)

I know its a very basic question but its better to have correct information than to experience an awkward situation

No you don't have to travel together. Think the primary applicant may have to validate first if this is the case but not 100% on that. Any person included on the application including child dependants needs to validate before the 'must make first entry by' date though.

You need to read your visa grant letter as there is no way to answer your question. Sometimes there is a condition that the primary applicant must enter Australia first. Other times there is not. There appears to be no rhyme or reason as to when this condition will be in place, so you just have to look at what has been decided in your situation.

If the condition is there, then the primary applicant must travel to Australia first or you travel at the same time and they go ahead of you in the queue at passport control.
