Hello All,

I have a workmate who is in a predicament. He has spent a great deal of money on what
I think is a dodgy solicitor. After two years and over $6000 he is still without a PR
visa. His relevant in is as follows

1. Came over from Sri Lanka on a 435 Visa just over 6 years ago.

2. All immediate family here (parents are deceased, but his brother, 5 aunts and 5
uncles are all in Australia).

3. He works for me as an apprentice coater operator.

4. He worked in the hospitality industry while in Sri Lanka

I am here on a 457 visa myself and I was wondering if we could sponsor him even
though he doesn't qualify under the independent skills category?

It's weighing heavilly on his mind, and I'd like to do what I can to help. Thanks
for any help.

Hi Glenn,

The 435 category was discontinued four or five years ago. Your friend is probably
going through the refugee process. Dodgy is likely if that amount of money has been
spent, particularly as most deserving cases get legal aid or IAAAS support. If you
are in Sydney, you can get him to call me; otherwise, email me some details and I'll
try to put you in contact with the right people.

What trade is a coater operator? Can you give me an ASCO descriptor? Would New
Zealand be acceptable?

Cheers
